Asbestos Exposure through Jewelry Making Causes Mesothelioma
Asbestos can be found in surprising places.
Our office once represented a client whose hobby was jewelry making. Nightly for 14 years, he would work in his home with a soldering tool making pieces of jewelry. He used a soldering pad to rest the pieces of metal on when he was soldering. This pad was made of 90% asbestos.
The material was made like a paper and wound like a tape. It was circular and flat, about 5 ½ inches in diameter. Before soldering any piece of jewelry, our client would take the pad in his hand and knock it against the side of his work table to loosen the pieces of soldering that would build up on the pad. This action, caused the pad to release asbestos fibers into the air in his home which he constantly breathed.Eventually, our client developed mesothelioma.
Our office was able to identify and sue the company that sold the asbestos soldering block on the ground that the soldering pad was a defective product. The soldering pad, when used as intended, released harmful amounts of asbestos fibers that our client, the consumer, had no reason to expect would cause him to contract a serious (and fatal) cancer.
When our client was diagnosed, he was referred to our firm since we specialize in handling asbestos lawsuits. Our expert mesothelioma attorneys were able to secure just compensation for our client.
