Court Approves Congoleum Corp. Plan to Reorganize
Congoleum Corporation’s Chief Financial Officer Howard N. Feist reported that the “District Court of New Jersey has entered an order confirming Congoleum’s Fourth Amended Plan of Reorganization. With the District Court’s confirmation order, Congoleum will now proceed with the steps necessary to implement the plan.”
Cong
oleum Corporation manufactured vinyl asbestos floor tiles through 1975. These tiles were installed on board Navy and commercial ships, schools, hospitals, apartment buildings and family homes. Many service men, workers and homeowners who installed and removed these floor tiles were exposed when the tiles were cut, broken, scraped or sanded.
Further, over time the tile can crack and crumble causing the release of dangerous asbestos fibers. Exposure to these dangerous asbestos fibers has caused some people to develop Mesothelioma and other asbestos diseases. It is anticipated that the Congoleum trust will begin accepting claims from asbestos victims in late 2010.
Clapper, Patti, Schweizer & Mason, a mesothelioma law firm, will be filing claims for all of their eligible clients and their families.
